" Cirque Noir "
is an invitation to go behind the ring.
It invites you into a dark world where circus people are not just performers,
they are exhibitionist on display. The idea behind "Cirque Noir" is to capture a "raw" circus as
individual portraits. I imagined asking each performer what about their
costumes or makeup was a central part of who they were. These articles
of clothing and makeup would be as attached as the limbs they are
exposing.
I ask, "What could you remove without compromising your persona, while
exposing yourselves like you would never imagine to, in the ring..."
